Family History Tasks

#1  Partner Sites Access


    Did you know that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints  has made agreements with different

 commercial Family History companies.    When a member  has a FamilySearch account they can 

have FREE access to several other genealogy companies.    These companies can be very useful in 

continuing research.     





On the left hand side of the Detail page under the heading search records.  

 There are seven options including FamilySearch.    




This is a list of Partner sites not including FamilySearch and Google.  
It is not difficult to get access to these sights to increase one's tools for genealogy.

Something important to know at this point is if you have done DNA connecting your accounts is
essential.    Ancestry has an account associated with your DNA.   MyHeritage does also.    
Sign in to connect your account.   The access that is given through the church is very useful, it is
important to keep the two accounts together. 

Adding to the partner sites is a great resource.   If you have any questions or problems please let
us know.  We are happy to help in any way.    It can be confusing at first, but is a very valuable resource. 


#2  In-Home Activities

    I love researching and finding out about ancestors.  Connecting and learning about
our ancestors gives us a strength and a spiritual connection.   This is a church video
about a family in  Honduras and Family History.  (Did you know I served my mission in Honduras,
there was not temple then.  Now you know why I chose this video.)   When we learn about, and 
connect our ancestors we gain spiritual strength from our family.    
This is The Hearts of the Children (primary song), 
I love primary songs and thought that would be a fun addition.   Malachi 4:5 is quoted in 
all the standard works  “Turn the hearts of the children to the fathers and the fathers to 
the children…”
When we think of our ancestors they think of us and we receive power in our lives. 
Sometimes we need Family History to just be fun!   Family Search has several  In-Home Activities.  
Last week I received an email about more of the activities that have been published on Family Search 
from Family Search.    We do not have to feel guilty about doing Family History.   Anytime that we feel 
we need or want extra  spiritual power and an extra portion of the spirit it is always available.  All we have 
to do is just connect with or think of our ancestors.    The ideas are published on FamilySearch.org,  and 
we just have to click and try the activities with our families.   These recent videos give ideas on how to 
use the activities.

  



There are literally endless opportunities for different activities online with Family History and it is Fun!

                                                                                                             Searching of Family Search My favorite way to search Family Search is by my ancestor.        I think the simplest way is to use the person page.   On the right-hand side, there is a Search Records tab.           Each of these different databases will populate the information of the specific ancestor of the person page.     The Family Search linksends you directly into the records.      It searches with the information that is on that page.    The critical point is that the information on the person page should be as accurate as possible to find the correct records.            Once we have created the accounts with the partner sights, it is straightforward to use the Ancestry, Find my Past, and My Heritage as other choices.    Above is an excellent method to find ancestors in records.

Sharing and Saving Family Video: FamilySearch and YouTube.

                                                                                                                                                                            The Family History Bug has Bitten!!                              It is Father's Day and the beginning of Summer.   It is the time when we are ambitious with how we are going to get lots of things done.     Well this week, we were trying to organize photos to make memory books and we found some video of Grandpa, who passed last year.   I told Chris that I had heard of a workaround on how to share videos through FamilySearch and he made it work.   YAY!   This post is written by Chris Reed.     Adding Family Videos to Family Search Family Search doesn’t allow adding video by default, but the following workaround will allow  you to add family videos to Family Search.   Sign into YouTube with a Gmail account that you use frequently so that it is always  active and follow the process to verify your account by going in

                          Welcome to Week #2   These both are fun activities to complete.    A     MEMORIES: PICTURES, DOCUMENTS, AUDIO FILES Adding Memories to the living and the deceased is a fun way to do family history; it compares to journaling or scrap booking.  FamilySearch is uploading and maintaining all of the information and the data storage facility that we can use as a resource.  A few years ago, I had an incredible experience where my daughter would ask for a bedtime story about an Ancestor.   I have some that are just in my head.   But she requested several nights in a row and wanted a different one every  night.   So I had the thought to pull out my phone and just read her some stories off of Family Search;  it was on the ancestor’s memories page where I could find a quick story.
